![]() Don’t let your size fool you though, as Gregor can reach pretty impressive speeds, resulting in a fast-paced adventure (if you so choose). Due to your tiny size, navigating the simplest environments can be tough, so you’ll need to run, jump, and occasionally stick to surfaces to survive. In terms of gameplay, Metamorphosis is mostly about first-person exploration with some light puzzle-solving peppered in. I was intrigued and entertained by quite a bit of Metamorphosis‘ narrative, but that intrigue failed to last throughout the game. The lack of character empathy, along with the abrupt ending (of which there are two, depending on your choices), made for a slightly underwhelming second half of the story. That said, does Metamorphosis stand out from the rest of the narrative-driven indies, or is this just a slightly trippy and overly ambitious adaptation? We hope our Metamorphosis review will help you figure that out! The concept of exploring a rich and fantastical world from the perspective of a tiny insect is interesting, especially when combined with the existential and surreal tone of Kafka’s writing. Reasonably anxious about his predicament, Gregor sets off on a wild and introspective adventure to restore his human state and save his pal Josef, who has been arrested by a tyrannical government. Like in the classic book, Metamorphosis follows the story of a lowly salesman named Gregor, who one day inexplicably transforms into a bug. The game was developed by the small indie studio Ovid Works and was published by All in! Games. It is a game with a similar message, even though the gameplay and imagery are stark contrasts between the two, if you liked and appreciated the message from Superliminal, you'll love the message presented in Hellblade.Metamorphosis is a first-person adventure/puzzle game and also an adaptation of the literary classic “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, originally published in 1915. ![]() If you beat the game and you felt some relief, but would like another, similar experience, I'd highly recommend Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. ![]() I know I've seen previous postings about how this game impacted and helped others during particular moments in life, and I am glad Pillow Castle made this game for those moments. ![]() It's not often that games create proper closure as well as support a greater message, but this one grabbed me, and I'm glad it did. I honestly thought the ending was extremely well done. Glenn Pierce shifted into something very beautiful, a message for the player, about perspective, and how just taking a step back to put things into perspective can help overall. I posted yesterday about starting the game, and I did beat the game last night during my first play-through, I did get stuck a few times! Apple room being the biggest problem! Castle room I actually completely messed up to where I had to reset, but I did get it done!Īnyway! I do have to say, I was confused about the narrative Superliminal presented, setting up the whole game with the deadpan humor similarly found in Portal, I was left wondering, how are they going to close this game and end it?Īs I approached the end I kept solving room after room thinking, is this it? Does it just end? Even with those endings I wasn't disappointed, but I did want some proper closureĪnd then it finally happened, the game did end. ![]()
